VidCon Adds Alisha Marie, Jason Nash, Simone Giertz To 'Featured Creator' Lineup

  • Tubefilter News

VidCon has added a bevy of bellwether 'Featured Creators' for its 10th annual gathering to be held this summer in Anaheim, Calif.

The Viacom-owned convention will welcome Alisha Marie, Madilyn Bailey, Rickey Thompson, Jason Nash, Smosh co-founder Ian Hecox, Simone Giertz, and Matt Steffanina. And given that VidCon plans to fete Og creators in honor of a decade spent in Anaheim, these stars will join a separate group of Founding Featured Creators -- or YouTubers who have been attending the event since its inception. The first round of Founding Featured Creators were announced in October, including Shay Carl, Ze Frank, Tay Zonday, Brittani Louise Taylor, and Julie Nunes.

Featured Creators -- and Founding Featured Creators -- attend VidCon for free, and appear across varied programming initiatives, including panel discussions, Q&As, and meet-ups.

VidCon To Spotlight Og YouTubers Like Tay Zonday, Brittani Louise Taylor At 10th Annual Gathering

  • Tubefilter News

To celebrate a decade of VidCons, the storied digital convention has announced a new class of 'Featured Creator' for this year's event -- or the YouTube stars who are invited free of charge and featured prominently across panels and programming.

This year, as VidCon winks back to its founding days, the Viacom-owned conference will spotlight a handful of Og YouTube stars it's referring to as 'Founding Featured Creators' -- or early viral stars who have attended VidCon since its inception. Nevertheless, many of these creators are no longer active on the platform today.

The initial roster includes controversy-ridden vlogger and entrepreneur Shay Carl, top BuzzFeed exec Ze Frank, deep-voiced crooner Tay Zonday, Lgbtq commentary creator Michael Buckley, musician Dave Days, music video parody artist Brittani Louise Taylor, retired vlogger Will Hyde, and singer Julie Nunes. VidCon founders John and Hank Green have also included themselves within the Founding Featured Creator class,

After "Really Bad Mistakes" And A Year Off, Shay Carl Returns To Shaytards Channel

  • Tubefilter News

As Shay Carl Butler looks to atone for mistakes he has made in his personal life, he has returned to the YouTube channel he and his family made famous. For the first time in more than a year, the Butler family has posted a new vlog on the Shaytards channel, which went on hiatus in February 2017 as the family's patriarch was embroiled in a scandal.

Last February, an adult webcam performer shared explicit text messages Shay Carl had sent her. Shortly thereafter, the YouTube star admitted that his chronic alcoholism had returned, and though he was already planning a hiatus, he immediately took a step away from YouTube to sort out his personal issues.

In November, Shay Carl returned to his YouTube channel with a contrite vlog, and the latest Shaytards video, which chronicles the Butler family's trip to Washington, DC, he offers more apologies for his transgressions. "I've had a really hard year.

Nine Months After Scandal, Shay Carl Returns To YouTube In Search Of A New Start

  • Tubefilter News

For nine years, Shay "Shay Carl" Butler was one of YouTube's most prominent family vloggers. On the Shaytards channel, Butler and his wife Colette shared their lives as they reared five children together.

In 2016, Butler announced that he would begin a break from the Shaytards vlog on March 5, 2017, but less than a month before he reached the start of that hiatus, he found himself at the center of a significant scandal. In February, adult webcam performer Aria Nina revealed that Butler had sent her explicit messages and videos of himself masturbating. In response to that news, Butler revealed the return of his alcoholism, tweeting that it had "manifested itself back into [his] life." The Shay Carl and Shaytards channels immediately fell silent.

Nine months later, Butler has returned to YouTube, and he is to make amends for his past and start fresh. In a five-minute vlog, he apologized for his indiscretions,

PewDiePie, YouTube's Biggest Star, Is On A Break

  • Tubefilter News

When he traveled to Los Angeles in order to film the second season of his YouTube Red series Scare PewDiePie, Swedish gamer Felix "PewDiePie" Kjellberg said he would use daily vlogs to document his adventures in the City of Angels. Instead, the stress of his busy schedule took an unfortunate toll on his psyche, and after completing 14 of his 22 planned vlogs, he decided to cancel his initial plan and take a brief break from YouTube.

PewDiePie's vlogging series carried the seemingly nonsensical title "Birdabo," and in the parts of it he did complete, he showcased the off-set portions of his westward trip. At the same time, he was far away from home and the pressure that a daily vlogging schedule requires turned out to be more mentally taxing than he expected. "I'm just really sad about it," he said in the video announcing his break. "I hope you understand.

Morgan Spurlock's Digital Vision: What The 'Super Size Me' Creator Has In Common With the YouTube Generation

Before the Ice Bucket Challenge, there was "Super Size Me." When little-known filmmaker Morgan Spurlock challenged himself to eat at McDonald's for every meal, three times a day, for thirty days straight, he anticipated the era of viral marketing with purpose. The documentary grossed $11.5 million theatrically in 2004 and ignited an international conversation about the fast food industry.

By appearing in his film as subject and narrator, Spurlock popularized a kind of personality-driven commentary that is now regularly found in another format — video blogging, or "vlogging." And that's why he's a good fit to produce "Vlogumentary," the first feature film to explore one of the more ubiquitous ways that personalities develop on the site.

The film not only offers fans an intimate look at their favorite vloggers, but also demystifies the strange career path for would-be skeptics.

Shay Butler's Latest Project? Proprietorship Of An Idaho-Based Alpine Ski Resort

  • Tubefilter News

Perennial YouTube family vlogging patriarch Shay Butler announced last week that he would be taking a year-long break from his channel beginning next March. And now we might have a better sense of how the 36-year-old Maker Studios co-founder will be occupying himself during his well-earned sabbatical.

Utah-based Butler has purchased a local ski resort called Pebble Creek Ski Area, according to the Idaho State Journal. Pebble Creek was previously owned by a group of investors for over three decades. Butler and his wife -- fellow YouTube star Colette Butler -- initially moved to purchase the property in nearby Inkom, Idaho, for an undisclosed sum last February, though the deal couldn't be finalized until this month when the U.S. Forest Service officially signed off on the sale.

'Vlogumentary', Which Aims To Spread YouTube's Gospel To The Masses, Premieres At Tribeca Film Festival

  • Tubefilter News

While Shay Carl Butler is often thought to be the forefather of modern vlogging, it was actually his wife, Colette, who fired up a vlogging camera for the first time -- capturing her husband as he danced around their living room in a black-and-blue unitard. This clip -- and Butler's snazzy attire -- subsequently inspired the name of their 4 million-subscribers-strong channel, the Shaytards.

This is just one of many insights to be found in Vlogumentary, a feature documentary about the rise of YouTube's vlogging community, which was announced back in 2013 and premiered last night at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Butler began working on the film with fellow creator Corey Vidal, and the two subsequently raised more than $200,000 from 5,400 Indiegogo donors. In 2015, they brought famed documentarian Morgan Spurlock on board, who agreed to produce the film.

While Vlogumentary features interviews with more than 50 bold-faced YouTubers, the film shines a

And in terms of presence on Google's online video site, diaper company Pampers has all others beat, with over 200 billion total video views across almost 8,000 videos featuring the brand.
