Billy Eichner's Rom-Com 'Bros' at Universal to Feature Entirely LGBTQ+ Cast, Luke Macfarlane Set as Co-Lead

Billy Eichner's upcoming studio romantic comedy "Bros" at Universal has set a principal cast that will be entirely LGBTQ+, and the studio has set Luke Macfarlane ("Brothers and Sisters") as the lead alongside Eichner.

Nicholas Stoller is directing "Bros," which also features a screenplay by Eichner. And the studio has already set the film for release on August 12, 2022.

Universal says that the LGBTQ+ cast of "Bros" will all play the principal heterosexual roles, which they say was a decision by the filmmakers and Universal to expand diversity and LGBTQ+ representation on screen.

The story however is that of two gay men hopefully, maybe, stumbling their way toward love, that is if they're not too busy.

Also joining the cast are Ts Madison, Miss Lawrence, Symone, Guillermo Diaz and Guy Branum.

"I could not be more proud or excited about the historic nature of the all openly LGBTQ+ cast of 'Bros,

The Best of Kathryn Hahn: 8 Roles That Paved the Way for Her 'WandaVision' Breakthrough — Watch

It's safe to say that society as a whole has never talked about Kathryn Hahn more than they have during the past few weeks. Not when she was a series regular for six seasons on cable. Not when she was getting Oscar buzz for a critically adored Sundance drama. And certainly not when she was the lead of her own HBO series (which she also produced).

Thus is the power of "WandaVision" and the MCU at large. The fandom is so fierce, the viewership so broad, that virtually every actor — lead or supporting — gets their time to shine. After seven long weeks waiting for Hahn's nosy neighbor Agnes to turn into something more, boy did she ever.

And Hahn delivered.

Of course, she always does. There is not a "bad" Kathryn Hahn performance out there. When polling the IndieWire staff for their favorite roles, some bad movies were tossed out,

Matthew McConaughey recalls when no one was willing to cast him

Actor Matthew McConaughey has recalled that no one was willing to cast him in Hollywood after he rejected romantic comedies.

McConaughey made a name for himself in Hollywood through romantic films such as "The Wedding Planner", "Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past" and "How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days".

However, in order to move away from the generic image, he once even turned down a $14.5 million offer for a rom-com.

Now, during an appearance in "The Brian Buffini Show", the actor said he is glad that the self-imposed exile had worked in his favour, reports contactmusic.com.

He said: "Now, 14 months go by after that six months where nothing comes in, I call my agent every other day, 'What do you got?' 'Buddy, no one is even mentioning your name. I bring up your name they say, 'Don't even want to talk about it'."

The actor continued: "Now I'm going,

Gay Best Friend: Duncan in "Set It Up"

Gay Best Friend: Duncan in

A series by Christopher James investigating the 'Gay Best Friend' trope in movies.

At 13 minutes into the movie, we meet Duncan (Pete Davidson). Very quickly after, we wish we hadn't met him.

I can admit this. Many of my choices for Gay Best Friend have been examples that I've loved. In the 90s and 00s, this was often one of the few ways we would see positive gay representation on the screen. Still, this trope can be negative when it leans on broad characterizations, the gay best friend as an empty accessory.

Netflix's Set It Up (2018) was a breath of fresh air in some ways. Theatrical releases were reserved for either superhero movies or more "cinematic" prestige fare. The romantic comedy genre was being edged out, only to find its home on Netflix. Set It Up had all the makings of a Pillow Talk old-fashioned romantic comedy with
